Who do you fight?

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:12 NIV

One of the main verses that gets me through is this one. In a situation where you’re dealing with the direct consequences of your spouse, and continued losses, rejection, and hurt, remembering these words puts it into perspective. It doesn’t provide an excuse for his behavior and choices, but it does provide relief to me. How? For me, knowing that Satan is the root of this fallen world makes me fight harder to follow God. Knowing that God made this world perfect…beautiful and free. My ex chooses sin and his self over fighting for his family. It’s the same thing Eve did. The emotional issue comes up because “this man who’s been your best friend over a 12 years is doing this”. The soul tie. That’s the bond that’s hard to break. For some it’s easier. For me, not so much. I’m oversimplifying it all because you’ve also got habitual sin. Overall, leaning on God through this verse will give you freedom to live. To breathe again. Your battle is not against your ex. Your battle is against the enemy. Keep fighting the good fight, pressing on and staying the path. God will take your crushed heart and mend it.

In love and hope for you,

Chelsea
